Biancaneve è la rivisitazione in chiave moderna di una delle fiabe più famose del mondo.
Tarsem Singh
(Immortals, The cell) per la sua versione adotta delle piccoli variazioni, puntando principalmente sull'ironia e sulla
straordinaria bravura di Julia Roberts, insolitamente nei 

panni di un personaggio malvagio (la matrigna
cattiva e vanitosa). 
La scena è dominato dalla presenza di Julia Roberts, talmente brava da essere credibile
anche nei panni della regina cattiva e vanitosa (tra l'altro bellissima come sempre). Anche se la 

vera carta
vincente del film sono i nani, troppo simpatici nella versione banditi su trampoli.
Non male anche
l'interpretazione degli altri due attori, Lily Collins, nel ruolo della buona e dolce Biancaneve, e Armie Hammer, nel
ruolo del principe buono, coraggioso e estremamente 

ingenuo.
Per il resto il film è veloce, con una
buona sceneggiatura costruita su dialoghi spiritosi, divertenti; la regia è abbastanza lineare e punta molto
sull'interpretazione degli attori, 

rinunciando quasi totalmente all'uso della musica, di solito predominante
in questo genere.

Il film
si apre con la Regina che racconta gli eventi precedenti alla storia che vedremo nel film, insistendo che si tratta
della sua storia e non di quella di Biancaneve.
Il Re padre di Biancaneve, una volta rimasto vedovo, si era
risposato con la Regina (definita "la più bella del reame") per darle una madre, ma quest'ultima, esperta di magia
nera, lo aveva 

eliminato e ne aveva usurpato il trono. La Regina aveva dunque tassato il popolo allo
sproposito, fingendo di utilizzare i proventi delle tasse per difenderlo da una spaventosa Bestia che 

infestava le sue terre; in realtà i soldi vengono sperperati per i trattamenti di bellezza e le feste della
Regina.
Dieci anni dopo gli eventi narrati nel prologo, Biancaneve, appena compiuti diciott'anni, è cresciuta
segregata nel palazzo: la Regina teme infatti che il popolo sia ancora devoto alla vera 

erede al trono, e
teme che con il suo appoggio Biancaneve possa rovesciarla. Ella è inoltre gelosa della sua
bellezza....................
